The Department of Health (DOH) underscored on Tuesday, Jan. 16, the importance of using antibiotics “correctly and responsibly” in the face of increasing concerns about antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
“Ang mga hamon na dulot ng AMR ay masalimuot at maraming aspeto, ngunit maraming paraan upang malutas ito (The challenges brought about by AMR are complex and multifaceted, but there are many ways to address them),” DOH said.
DOH noted that antimicrobial resistance occurs when bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms evolve and resist the drugs designed to combat them, posing a serious threat to an individual's health.
The Health Department called on the public to join forces in addressing this issue, acknowledging that the challenges posed by AMR require collective efforts.
"Sama-sama tayong magtulungan upang antimicrobial resistance ay mapigilan dahil sa Bagong Pilipinas, Bawat Buhay ay Mahalaga (Let us work together to prevent antimicrobial resistance because in the New Philippines, every life is precious)," the DOH said.
