Thousands witness Sinulog sa Lalawigan dance showdown


CEBU CITY – Thousands of spectators watched the street dancing and grand ritual dance showdown of the Sinulog sa Lalawigan here on Sunday, January 14.

The Sinulog sa Lalawigan co-organized by the Sinulog Foundation and the provincial government of Cebu was participated in by contingents from various towns and component towns in the province of Cebu.

The event was separate from the Cebu City government-initiated Sinulog Grand Parade on Sunday, January 21, at the South Road Properties here.

The street dancing of the Sinulog sa Lalawigan was held on Osmena Boulevard while the grand ritual dance showdown took place at the Cebu City Sports Center witnessed bvy some senators and other government officials.

The event was participated in by 18 contingents, including two guest teams.

Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia was part of one of the two guest contingents. It has been an annual tradition of Garcia to dance during Sinulog.

Carcar City was declared champion in the grand ritual showdown and pocketed P3.5 million.

Talisay City was second and earned P2.4 million while the City of Naga placed third and received P1.8 million. Mandaue City was fourth and got P1.2 million while Toledo City made P900,000.

Samboan town ruled the street dancing competition and got P1 million, while Carcar finished second, good for P750,000. Talisay finished third and received P500,000

Carcar also bagged the festival queen, best in costume, best choreographer, and best musical ensemble awards.

Consolacion won the best festival queen costume while Talisay bagged the best mayor’s introduction video award.
