CAMP FLORENDO, La Union – Police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) destroyed 15,600 fully grown marijuana plants and 5,000 seedlings worth P3.3 million in Kibungan, Benguet on Thursday, January 11.
These were discovered in three plantations with a total land area of 2,402-square meters in Sitio Calipayan, Barangay Badeo, said Police Brig. Gen. Lou F. Evangelista, Ilocos police chief, on Monday, January 15.
Evangelista said that their eradication operation continues with the goal of reducing, if not eradicate, marijuana in the region.
He congratulated operating units for this accomplishment.
“This accomplishment is a manifestation of PRO-1’s effective implementation of its anti-illegal drug demand and supply reduction strategy. This is a part of our continuing effort in streamlining the robust quad concept in the execution of our police operations in line with the seven-point agenda,” he said.
“Hindi po kami titigil sa pagpapatupad ng batas upang siguraduhing secured ang Region 1. We will double our efforts to destroy and block sources of illegal drugs from the regional boundaries to all areas of Ilocos region,” he added.
Uprooted marijuana plants were burned on site. Only samples ere taken to the Police Regional Office-1 headquarters here for documentation before these will be turned over to the PDEA-Region 1 for laboratory examination.
