DAVAO CITY – Presidential Assistant for Eastern Mindanao Leo Tereso Magno met last week with the chief of the Philippine Army, Lt. Gen. Roy Galido, to outline security measures and additional initiatives tailored for the Davao region.
Magno said these endeavors aim to enhance the overall stability of peace and order and security within Davao even if the region was declared insurgency-free in October 2022.
“The strategic planning meeting intends to help the security forces in the region strengthen their measures in maintaining peace in the area,” Magno said, adding that this is one of his tasks as a Cabinet Officer for Regional Development and Security (CORDS) for Davao region.
The appointment of CORDS in various regions in the country seeks to align and synchronize the roles and contributions of the Regional Development Council (RDC) and the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC), among other entities.
Magno reminded the people that maintaining the Davao region free from insurgency is a joint responsibility of security forces and the entire populace. He said everyone should remember their role in maintaining peace and order in the region.
Galido, who was installed as Army chief last year, said that their peace and development efforts will continue, especially in Mindanao, where he had been with the 6th Infantry Division for many years.
Magno coordinated with the Army 10th Infantry Division (ID) commander, Brig. Gen. Allan Hambala, three days after he met Galido, to help finance the needs of the government troops on the ground.
Hambala discussed the assistance that the OPAMINE can extend to their division. He said that government troops need support for their training and supplies to further boost their morale on the field.
Magno recognized the importance that government troops brought to peace and order in the area covered by the 10th ID. He said that the 10th ID plays a major role in maintaining an insurgency-free Davao region and they also discussed the strategic plans of the division.
