DepEd announces ‘smooth transition’ of 14 embo schools

Management and operation of these schools will now be under the Schools Division of Taguig-Pateros


The Department of Education (DepEd) on Monday, Jan. 15, announced the “orderly transition” of the 14 schools in embo (enlisted men’s barrio) barangays affected by the Makati-Taguig row.

While there are still specific issues and appeals that shall be left to the final determination of the proper authorities, the transition has been finally concluded through the collective resolve of the parties in ensuring the unhampered delivery of basic education services,” DepEd said in a statement.

DepEd thanked the City of Taguig and the City of Makati for an orderly transition of the said schools.

The agency said it was “grateful for the cooperation and commitment” of the City Government of Taguig and Makati towards an “orderly transition” of the schools affected by the Supreme Court’s Decision in the case entitled, Municipality of Makati vs. Municipality of Taguig (G.R. No. 235316).

DepEd also recognized the efforts of its Regional Director Gilbert Sadsad and all of the members of the Transition committee for their “perseverance and diligence” throughout the entire process.

With the common goal of delivering quality education, DepEd said Vice President and Secretary of Education Sara Z. Duterte, Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano, and Makati Mayor Abby Binay signed a Memorandum of Agreement for the full transition of the public schools’ operations from Makati to Taguig beginning Jan. 01, 2024.

In the said agreement, the Schools Division of Taguig-Pateros will now manage and operate the 14 schools namely the Makati Science High School, Comembo Elementary School, Rizal Elementary School, Pembo Elementary School, Benigno “Ninoy” S. Aquino High School, Tibagan High School, Fort Bonifacio Elementary School, Fort Bonifacio High School, Pitogo Elementary School, Pitogo High School, Cembo Elementary School, East Rembo Elementary School, West Rembo Elementary School, and South Cembo Elementary School.
