Cold nights, light rains to persist over Luzon due to 'amihan' --- PAGASA

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Monday, Jan. 15 said the northeast monsoon or "amihan" may continue to bring isolated light rains in Luzon in the next three days.

In PAGASA's 4 a.m. live broadcast, weather specialist Obet Badrina said cold temperatures will also be expected in Luzon in the evening due to amihan.

In Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Quezon, and Bicol Region, cloudy skies with light rains will be felt while Metro Manila, Western Visayas, and the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains caused by amihan.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said aside from the northeast monsoon, the weather system affecting the country is the shear line or the area where the cold northeasterly winds and warm easterlies converge.

In Southern Leyte, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, and Davao Region, the shear line will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.

PAGASA said flash floods or landslides may occur due to moderate to heavy rains in the affected areas.

In the rest of the country, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers will be felt caused by the localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also warned the public of flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms.
