Rhenz Abando has assured his fans that he’s on the right path to recovery more than two weeks since suffering injuries from a nasty fall during Anyang KGC’s yearend match against Goyang Sono in the Korean Basketball League.

The Filipino import thanked local fans and those back home for supporting him as he seeks to be back in action as soon as he gets medical clearance.

“I just wanna say 'hi' to JKJ fans and to my Filipino fans. Wishing you nothing but the best this year and thank you for supporting me," said Abando on a team’s Facebook post.

The 25-year-old high-flying guard was revealed to have suffered fractures to his third and fourth lumbar vertebrae, sprained wrist ligaments and a concussion last Dec. 29.

A day prior, Abando was fighting hard for the rebound in the second quarter of Anyang’s game against Goyang where American import Chinanu Onuaku was seen pushing him while he was mid-air, causing him to lose balance and land on his back.

Abando sat out the rest of the said game and will continue to miss action as the reigning champion struggles in the standings with an 11-20 record.

“Now, I feel better than the first day that I got injured. To all the fans who got worried about me, now I’m gonna tell you that I feel better. For the past two weeks, I’m getting better so please support our team and just wait for our comeback,” he said.

While Abando nurses himself back to full health and his timetable could possibly take longer than expected, Anyang is fighting to stay alive and improve from the seventh spot as only the top six teams in the regular season will advance to the post-season playoffs.

Before the horror fall, Abando was averaging 9.5 points and 4.9 rebounds per content for the Red Boosters in thr ongoing season.

The Gilas Pilipinas standout’s camp has also mulled over taking a legal action against Onuaku following his non-apology towards the incident.

Although the league’s financial committee had already imposed a three million won (approximately P128,000) fine on Onuaku, Abando’s side and locals fans have deemed it as a soft punishment for how much it impacted the former.

Interestingly, Anyang is looking to end its back-to-back slide against Goyang when KBL resumes on Wednesday, Jan. 17.
