EU Ambassador to the Philippines Luc Veron posted on X (formerly Twitter) about the experience.
“We flipped the switch and made it LIT,” the envoy wrote on Saturday, Jan. 13.
“The night was alive with the #EUPH60 logo taking center stage in the @TheMallofAsia. Shared this moment with the European family and Philippine partners. A celebration of the friendship between (European Union and the Philippines). @DFAPHL @DTIDesignCenter,” he added as German Ambassador Andreas Pfaffernoschke retweeted the post.
Veron also shared a photo of the event held on Friday night, Jan. 12. He attended the ceremony together with Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Theresa Lazaro.
According to a statement from the EU Delegation in the Philippines, the logo for the 60th anniversary of the two countries’ bilateral relationship “symbolizes the enduring commitment to mutual understanding and collaborative problem solving, embodying the spirit of cooperation, solidarity, and harmonious synergy between two diverse regions.”
“It is also a very good representation of how our relationship will continue to progress unabated,” it added.
The year-long celebration will feature a number of special events, such as a multi-media exhibition, an inter-collegiate quiz (EU Whiz), and a choral competition, among others.
The Philippines established formal relationship with the European Community, which was eventually replaced by EU, on May 12, 1964. The EU Delegation to the Philippines was officially opened on May 15, 1991.
