DSWD continues to aid families affected by floods in Central Visayas
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Sunday, Jan. 14, said it continues to provide and coordinate with local government units (LGUs) support to families affected by flooding incidents and other emergencies in the region in the last quarter of 2023.

In a statement on Sunday, Jan. 14, the DSWD, through its Field Office in Cebu (Region 7), said it provided a total of P223,462 worth of humanitarian assistance to 632 families or 2,666 individuals affected by the weather disturbance.
The assistance included 231 family food packs and 16 sets of hygiene, sleeping, and family kits.
In the Jan. 11 terminal report to DSWD-Disaster Response and Management Group (DRMG) Undersecretary Diana Rose Cajipe, Regional Director Shalaine Marie Lucero said they assisted their constituents by providing them with food and rice packs, canned goods, and cash aid.
“While we have terminated our disaster report for the flooding incidents in Compostela and Danao City, we continue to coordinate with the two LGUs to ensure that the affected families are already leading normal lives,” Lucero said in the report.
“We are also constantly coordinating with the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) for any updates and for other interventions needed by the affected families,” the director added.
In a related development, however, the director reported that the Field Office has also provided augmentation support in Naga City facing challenges due to tension cracks caused by the Metro Cebu Expressway construction.
It said that around 7,716 individuals were affected, with 232 currently staying in evacuation centers set up by the LGU.
On Dec. 13, the DSWD added that they initially provided 52 family food packs to the city LGU.
