Coast Guard rescues 7 fishermen in Iloilo


ILOILO CITY – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) rescued seven fishermen from a distressed fishing boat off the coast of San Joaquin town, Iloilo province.

A joint team from PCG-Iloilo sub-station in Tigbauan town and its outpost in the municipality of Guimbal responded to a call for help from the fishing boat eight nautical miles off the southeast portion of San Joaquin on Saturday afternoon, January 13.

The PCG-Iloilo said the fishing boat encountered engine trouble.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) of San Joaquin initially received the report and relayed it to the PCG-Iloilo sub-station in Tigbauan.

PCG teams from Tigbauan and Guimbal conducted a joint search and rescue operation.

Seven fishermen – residents of Barangay Nalundan, Guimbal – were rescued while the boat was towed back to Barangay Cabubugan in Guimbal.
