29 families displaced in Bacolod fire


BACOLOD CITY – Twenty-nine families were displaced and property worth P4.3 million were destroyed in a fire that razed the Home for the Blind in Purok Paglaum, Barangay Mansilingan here on Saturday, January 13.

The blaze broke out around 1:18 p.m. from the second building of the government-run facility, according to Fire Officer 2 Rolin Paulan, arson investigator of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Bacolod.

The fire destroyed three structures and damaged two others facilitated by the Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD).

Paulan said that based on circumstantial evidence, the BFP is looking into electrical ignition as possible cause of the blaze.

The burnt structures were made of mixed concrete and light materials, he added.

Damage to property was P4.3 million, affecting a 360-square meter area.

Fire out was declared around 1:46 p.m. No injuries were reported.
