2 die as pick-up truck rams motorcycle in Ilocos Sur

SANTA, Ilocos Sur – A woman and her back rider died in an accident when a pick-up truck rammed their motorcycle on the national highway in Sitio Pideg, Barangay Magsaysay District, this town, on Saturday afternoon, January 13.

Police Capt. Mark Bryan Corpuz, Santa chief of police, identified the victims as motorcycle driver Marisol Tacanay, 29, and her back rider, Ciriaco Tacloban Jr., 34.

Investigation said the right front wheel of a southbound Nissan Navara pick-up truck driven by Arsenio Car, 55, accidentally burst. Car lost control of the vehicle and accidentally hit the northbound Honda Beat motorcycle driven by Tacanay.

Due to the impact of the collision, the victims sustained serious injuries and were taken to a hospital where they were declared dead.

Car was unhurt, Corpuz said.

The two vehicles were heavily damaged with still undetermined cost of repair.

Corpuz advised motorists to check their vehicles before traveling to avoid accidents.
