The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of a P72.37 million flood control protective structure at the Alaminos River in Pangasinan.

DPWH Region I Director Ronnel Tan said the flood shield structure was constructed in the Barangay Pogo section of the river.

He stated that the concrete structure built along the river will safeguard nearby residents from floods while also minimizing harm to residents' properties and livelihoods during natural disasters in the surrounding area.

“The completion of this flood control project is in line with the unwavering commitment of DPWH to safeguard communities against natural disasters,” Tan stressed.

He pointed out that the recently finished flood control project is linked to the existing concrete river walls that act as the community's first line of defense in the event of a disaster that may prevent the Alaminos River from potentially overflowing.

The construction of the project was part of the agency’s flood management program funded under the 2022 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
