Decomposing body of man found floating off Batangas

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) retrieved a body of a man that is already in a state of decomposition off the waters in Tingloy, Batangas on Friday, Jan. 12.

PCG spokesperson Rear Adm. Armando Balilo described the still unidentified fatality as a male estimated to be between 25 to 30 years old, with a dark complexion, medium-built body, and 5'7" height.

He was wearing an orange short with imprinted words "Tour de Infanta", olive green shorts, and a black belt.

According to PCG, the discovery was reported to the Coast Guard Station (CGS) Batangas by passenger ship MV Maria Zenaida. The vessel was passing through the area en route to Abra de Ilog Port in Occidental Mindoro from the Batangas Port when its crew noticed the floating body.

The CGS Batangas coordinated with its sub-stationa in Tingloy and Mabini towns as well as local officials in Barangay Gamao and Pisa in Tingloy to initiate a search and retrieval operation.

"After hours of searching, the PCG was able to retrieve the cadaver," Balilo said.

The body was fished out of the water and transported to Barangay Mainit in Mabini where it was turned over to the local police for proper disposition and documentation.

The local police have conducted an investigation to identify the corpse and an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
