IT'S THE SMALL THINGS

“And to make an end is to make a beginning. The end is where we start from.” — Eliot
And that is exactly where I start this piece from. The holiday frenzy and pandemonium very much took me over the last week of December, explaining my absence from this place last week. But alas, we are recovering and though I may not physically feel re-charged just yet (I guess it’s quite a challenge especially if one is on their last trimester of pregnancy) and my energy seems to continuously dwindle (and spike from time to time), mentally, I am conditioned to face a new year. One that will mark many milestones, and beautiful beginnings — at least for my family and I. Claiming it.
The end of anything always comes with a sense of nostalgia and a spice of sadness at the very least, even when it is a happy occasion like welcoming a new year. In the same way that every beginning can be overwhelming to say the very least. As human beings, we are predisposed to routine because oftentimes it equates comfort. Change requires adjustment, and can therefore be daunting. But, we also know that as the only constant in this world, we need change in our lives to grow and progress.
How we handle change is oftentimes determined by past situations, and how we have coped then. By taking best practices along, and shelving those that did not quite work out. A strong and steady support system is also crucial in one’s success I have come to realize. Whether physically or through other channels of communication, knowing that there is someone, or a group of people, readily there for you at anytime to lend a hand of support — physically, mentally, or emotionally — is always re-assuring, and more often than not, is what we need to get us by times of transition and adjustment seamlessly.
So as with the past, I start the year with a bunch of goals I wish to accomplish. But to be honest, I have not had the time to establish these just yet. What I am certain of however is that I want to continue to be of help to others. And knowing that I am going to go through quite a big year this year, I hope to be part of the support system of those who have provided for me as well because I truly believe that the universe gives back to you what you put out.
So that is how I am beginning. And I will continue on in the weeks and months to come.
