Jockey dies after being trampled by horses in Batangas race


MALVAR, Batangas – A 46-year-old jockey was trampled to death after he fell off his horse during a race at the Metro Turf Club in Barangay San Pioquinto here on Wednesday, January 10.

Police identified the victim as Francisco Tuazon of Barangay 331, Manila.

Tuazon was a participant in Race No. 4 with a total length of 1,200 meters and riding horse No. 5 named Wild Eagle owned by James Rabano.

While in the middle of the race, the left stirrup of his horse suddenly broke, caused him to lose his footing, and fell on the race track at 6:48 a.m.

Tuazon was trampled by his horse and another steed.

He was taken by the Metro Turf Rescue Team to the DMMC Hospital in Tanauan City, Batangas where he was declared dead by Dr. Benjamin Macatangay.

Police said Tuazon’s body was transferred to SRB Sanctuary Chapel in Santa Cruz, Manila for his wake.

Lawmen are conducting further investigation on the incident.
