DSWD cites 'near-perfect' centenarian program goal in 2023; eyes enhancement in 2024
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said the department has successfully reached 99 percent of its annual target for implementing the centenarian program this year.

In a statement on Thursday, Jan. 11, DSWD Asst. Secretary for Strategic Communications Romel Lopez said that means 2,444 centenarians, or 99.15 percent, received incentives from the department.
The centenarian program of DSWD is an initiative that aims to recognize and assist elderly Filipinos who have reached the age of 100, whether they are residing in the country or abroad.
Under this program, they are provided with a cash incentive of P100,000 and a Letter of Felicitation signed by President Marcos Jr. —congratulating them for their "longevity and the achievement of reaching such an impressive age."
In addition to the cash, the DSWD also provides a "posthumous plaque" of recognition for a deceased centenarian— which may be received by the nearest surviving relative.
"This achievement is a testament to the effectiveness of our programs and the commitment of everyone involved to make a positive impact on the lives of our centenarians," the spokesperson said.
Lopez also expressed gratitude for the hard work and dedication of the DSWD's personnel, as well as the collaborative efforts with local government units (LGUs) and the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC).
Furthermore, Lopez mentioned that the DSWD has allocated over P186 million to finance the centenarian program's implementation for 2024.
The spokesperson also assured the public of the department's steadfast commitment to the program's continuous improvement to ensure deserving centenarians receive incentives.
