Drunk construction worker found dead in Pasig River

The body of an alleged drunk construction worker was found after he drowned in the Pasig River in Manila on Thursday, Jan. 11.

The Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) identified the victim as Jonathan Pava, 33, a resident of Angono, Rizal. 

 

Around 9:50 p.m. on Thursday, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and Manila DRRMO members retrieved the victim's body after a search and rescue operation.

 

Rogyn Peñano, the victim's cousin, said that Pava was drunk before jumping into the river near the Binondo-Intramuros Bridge at around 7:30 p.m.

 

According to the victim's drinking buddy, they said that the victim was able to emerge from the river the first time he jumped.

 

They added that the victim jumped into the water for the second time and failed to emerge.

 

The Manila DRRMO, during a media interview, reminded the public that the Pasig River is muddy, so it is prohibited to swim in the river for their safety.
