Construction worker killed, 2 injured in landslide

A construction worker was killed and two others were injured in a landslide on Thursday afternoon, January 11, in Barangay Calumpang, Liliw, Laguna.

Police Lt. Gen. Rhoderick Armamento, Area Police Command-Southern Luzon commander, identified the fatality as Vijay Salisod, 36.

Armamento said Salisod and Joel Basco, 41, and Eduardo de la Cueva, 39, were constructing riprap stones on the river dam in the area when soil and rocks from the river cliff eroded due to continuous rain.

They were buried alive but were dug up by their colleagues and responders.

Salisod was declared dead and Basco and De la Cueva were taken to the Nagcarlan District Hospital in Laguna.

Armamento has ordered the Liliw police to deploy personnel to ensure that no unauthorized personnel enters the area.

He also directed the local police to coordinate with the municipal government to assess the area and avoid similar accidents.
