Light rains to persist over Metro Manila due to 'amihan'

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Thursday, Jan. 11, said the northeast monsoon or 'amihan' may still bring light rains to Metro Manila in the next 24 hours.

In PAGASA's 4 a.m. live broadcast, weather specialist Benison Estareja said amihan prevails in parts of Luzon including Metro Manila where "slightly colder" temperatures and isolated light rains will be felt.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said the shear line---a weather system where the cold northeasterly winds and warm easterlies converge---will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in the Bicol Region and Quezon.

PAGASA said flash floods or landslides may occur in the affected areas in times of moderate to heavy rains.

In Cagayan Valley and Aurora, cloudy skies with light rains will be felt, while the rest of Luzon may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains both caused by "amihan."

Moreover, the rest of the country will also have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by the easterlies or the warm winds from the Pacific Ocean.

PAGASA also warned the public of threats from flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms.
