The Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) Central Office (BFAR) held its first meeting with the National Steering Committee for the upcoming plans under the Philippine Fisheries and Coastal Resiliency (FishCoRe).
In a statement, Agriculture Undersecretary for Fisheries Drusila Esther E. Bayate said she led the meeting and discussed this year’s strategies for the project with other BFAR officials.
The recent exchange allowed them to examine and highlight parts of FishCoRe which needs improvement for 2024.
The P11.42 billion project is a collaboration between the DA - BFAR and World Bank to improve the fisheries resources, fisherfolk, and its production in selected areas 6 and 9.
According to the agency, this initiative focuses on the human component, manages and preserves the country’s waters and resources, as well as manage fisheries through a science-based manner.
This would also benefit 11 regions and 24 provinces, as well as around 26,877 fisherfolk.
The meeting included DA-BFAR National Director Demosthenes R. Escoto, the National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (NFRDI), Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA), and the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) under the DA.
The project was launched on September of 2023 and will finish by 2029.
