The Philippines and Indonesia have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to strengthen both countries' cooperation on energy security.

The presentation of the signed MOU took place following the bilateral meeting between President Marcos and Indonesian President Joko Widodo in Malacañan on Wednesday morning, Jan. 10.
The MOU was signed between the Department of Energy and Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
In his speech following the presentation, Marcos said the MOU signifies the desire of both countries to continue to deepen and strengthen bilateral relations, particularly in the area of energy cooperation.
"Through this MOU, our countries create a new synergy as we cooperate to achieve energy security," he said.
Marcos added that another MOU on science and technology is also nearing completion.
According to Malacañang, the signing of the MOU underscores both countries' unwavering commitment to enhancing and solidifying bilateral relations between the Philippines and Indonesia.
It said that the MOU offers potential benefits in economic, environmental, and geopolitical aspects, including enhanced energy security through diversification of energy sources, technology transfer, and knowledge exchange.
"It can also contribute to economic growth, job creation, and investment attraction, as well as bolster collaborative efforts between the two nations," it said.
Widodo is in the Philippines for a three-day official visit.
