OPAMINE Leo Tereso Magno said in a statement that DA Secretary Francisco Laurel Jr. has been visiting Eastern Mindanao since assuming his post to gain a deeper understanding of the circumstances faced by farmers.
The two secretaries recently convened to deliberate on their strategies for assisting farmers and ensuring food security in the nation.
Laurel solicited suggestions from the regional agricultural and fisheries to enhance agricultural infrastructure and mechanization investments and promote farm modernization and productivity.
“With Mindanao as among the biggest suppliers of agricultural products in the country, it is fitting to prioritize the island in the (President Ferdinand R. Marcos) administration's agricultural roadmap,” Magno said.
Magno assured farmers that he would work hand-in-hand with them and concerned government agencies to give them better farming equipment from the Marcos administration.
Laurel had earlier said that infrastructure development and modernization would push through with the support of agricultural exchange. He believed that progress can be achieved more quickly if people collaborate effectively.
