NPC not behind latest Cha-cha through Peoples’ Initiative campaign—Sotto

The Nationalist Peoples’ Coalition (NPC) is not behind the reported latest moves to amend the 1987 Constitution through a Peoples’ Initiative (PI).

Former Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, chairman of the NPC, stated this in message to Senate reporters.

“As Chairman of the NPC, I can officially state that the party is not behind the so-called Peoples’ Initiative,” Sotto said.

The NPC is also “not endorsing anything,” the former Senate leader said.

“I met with some of our leaders last night. The Party is not endorsing anything,” he said.

“Any member who supports the PI is on a personal level and not the Party’s stand,” Sotto also said.

Sotto also said the so-called “EDSA Pwera” television ad, which supposedly provides explanation on the need to amend the 1987 Constitution, is “untruthful and inaccurate.”

“(That is) untruthful and inaccurate. The problem is not the Constitution but some of the people executing it,” Sotto stressed.
