Francis Casey Alcantara and Sun Fajing outplayed their fellow unseeded rivals to barge into the men’s doubles quarterfinals of the Bangkok Open 2 Challenger in Nonthaburi, Thailand on Tuesday, Jan. 9.

The Filipino-Chinese tandem showed chemistry and cohesion in edging Great Britain’s Scott Duncan and Canada’s Kelsey Stevenson, 6-4, 7-6 (4), for a shot at the title in this $80,000 tournament.
Alcantara and Sun, however, will have a tougher task as they set up a quarters date with fourth seed Hans Hach Verdugo of Mexico and Nam Jisung of South Korea, who dumped wildcard bets Pruchya Isaro and Maximus Jones of Thailand, 6-3, 6-3.
Verdugo boasts of one ATP and 19 ITF doubles crowns while Nam has competed in the 2020 and 2021 Australian Open doubles event where he and his partner reached the second round.
This serves as the first tournament of Alcantara this season as he aims to further improve his doubles ranking in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP).
He currently enjoys a career-high doubles ranking of No. 199.
