1.5 tons of contraband seized in Butuan City jail

BUTUAN CITY – More than 1.5 tons of contraband were seized by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-Caraga in a day-long “Oplan: Baklas” at Butuan City Jail Male Dormitory on January 8.

“Throughout the operation, this substantial amount of ‘nuisance contraband’ was confiscated, and this seizure significantly reduced overcrowding and mitigated fire and health risks within the facility,” said BJMP-Caraga Assistant Regional Director for Operations Jail Supt. Arvin T. Abastillas who supervised the implementation of Oplan: Baklas at the Butuan City Jail Male Dormitory under warden Jail Chief Insp. Diovin C. Auza.

Oplan: Baklas seeks to eliminate illegal structures, objects, and items discovered within jail cells, the BJMP-13 said.

“The main purpose is also to eradicate various types of contraband, including liquor, cigarettes, appliances, excessive money, lewd, and pornographic materials.”

The BJMP-13 added that the confiscation of contraband will contribute to a safe environment in the facility and reduce the potential  for violence and other disturbance inside.

Mayor Ronnie Vicente C. Lagnada here cited the  BJMP-13 for conducting clean-up in the facility. “After all, this is good for everybody living in that facility,” Lagnada said.
