CAMP JUAN, Ilocos Norte – The New Year celebration in this province was generally peaceful, police said.
Police Col. Julius Suriben, Ilocos Norte police director, said the province recorded no stray bullet incidents and tourist-related incidents as of 6 a.m. on January 1.
However, Suriben said they monitored three minor firecracker-related injuries from December 22 to 31.
One minor victim from San Nicolas was slightly injured and treated outpatient due to a firecracker on December 22.
On New Year’s Eve, Ryan Efraem Randuem, 36, mechanic, from Barangay Nalasin, Paoay, was also slightly injured and treated outpatient due to Kwitis.
Charlyne Mae Cabacungan, 31, of Barangay 32-B, La Paz, here, was injured and treated outpatient due to Fountain.
Suriben said that 216 “boga” or improvised cannon were confiscated and P50,790 worth of assorted illegal firecrackers were seized and surrendered.
The province recorded four road crash incidents on December 31 and the persons involved sustained minor injuries.
“Our police officers remain on alert and continue our campaign against illegal firecrackers while we are anticipating the post-New Year celebration firecracker-related injuries. We also refocus deployment in beaches, rivers, and malls where people may go today and tonight in bars/videokes until the official holiday ends,” Suriben said.
