Hwang Jung-min, Jung Hae-in’s film ‘I, the Executioner’ reaches 4 million moviegoers 


“I, the Executioner,” the Korean film starring actors Hwang Jung-min and Jung Hae-in, has sold four million tickets in just six days in South Korea. 

Directed by Ryoo Seung-wan, “I, the Executioner” (베테랑2) is the sequel to the 2015 movie “Veteran” and was screened at the 77th Cannes Film Festival in May. 

The film reached four million in total admissions at about 9 a.m. KST on Sept. 18, or in six days since its release in South Korea on Sept. 13, based on data from the Korean Film Council (KOFIC). The four-million mark is the film’s breakeven point.

As of Sept. 17, the  “I, the Executioner” garnered a total of 3.71 million in total admissions and revenue of $27.19 million.  

“I, the Executioner” opened in South Korea on Sept. 13 with 497,550 in total admissions and revenue of $3.6 million. 

It surpassed one million moviegoers on Sept. 14, two million on  Sept. 15 and three million on Sept. 17. 

The number of people visiting theaters during the Chuseok holiday this year increased compared to last year. 

“I, the Executioner” is an action crime movie about detective Seo Do-cheol (Hwang Jung-min) and  Park Sun-woo (Jung Hae-in), the youngest detective who joins the violent crime investigation unit to chase a serial killer.
