The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) installed Major General Augustine Malinit as the organization’s new inspector general on Saturday, Sept. 14.

Malinit replaced Lt. Gen. Steve Crespillo who stepped down from his post after retiring from the military service.

The change of chief of office and retirement ceremony was presided over by AFP Chief, Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

Prior to the appointment, Malinit served as the vice commander of the Philippine Air Force (PAF).

He is a member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) “Sambisig” Class of 1991.

He brings with him a vast leadership experience as he also previously commanded the Air Defense Command and the 580th Air Control Warning Wing.

Meanwhile, Crespillo is a distinguished member of the PMA “Bigkis-Lahi” Class of 1990.

He previously served as the vice commander of the Philippine Army (PA), chief of the Office of the Army Ethical Standards and Public Accountability, and commander of the 501st Infantry Brigade of the 5th Infantry Division.

He also held critical positions as chief of staff of the 6th Infantry Division, Chief of the Unified Command Staff of Western Mindanao Command, and commanding officer of the 54th Infantry Battalion.

In his speech, Brawner emphasized the importance of continuity of plans and excellence in leadership within the AFP.

“The transition highlights the AFP’s commitment to fostering leadership that upholds the values of professionalism and integrity,” said Col. Xerxes Trinidad, chief of AFP public affairs office.

The AFP inspector general helps maintain the integrity of the military by ensuring that it operates in a lawful, ethical and effective manner.

The inspector general looks into and reports on matters pertaining to the mission effectiveness, operational readiness, security preparedness, utilization of resources, as well as the state of morale and discipline of the AFP through inspections, investigations, researches, surveys, and studies.

The inspector general also recommends to the AFP Chief of Staff ways and means by which improvements in these aspects may be attained.
