16 fire volunteers hurt in 41-hour Tondo blaze
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) clarified on Saturday, August 10, that 16 fire volunteers were hurt in a fire that gutted a warehouse on Guidote Street, Barangay 132 in Balut, Tondo, Manila on Thursday night, August 8.


On Saturday, the BFP officially put the fire under control at around 9:16 a.m. and declared the fire out at 1:21 p.m. after the fire remained under the second alarm for 36 hours.
Firefighters battled the blaze for almost 41 hours since the fire started and declared the first alarm at 8:01 p.m. on Thursday.
The inferno was escalated to the second alarm at 8:14 p.m.
Firefighters said the fire started in the repair area or storage area located on the second floor of the four-story warehouse building.
According to the Chief Operation of BFP Manila, Michael Ignacio, the warehouse mostly contained hardware, power, electrical tools, and paint.
Ignacio also said that they rescued three individuals during the operation, who, according to him, were possibly residing at the warehouse.
He said that the individuals are now in safe condition.
The BFP said the injured fire volunteers suffered first to second-degree superficial burns in the different parts of their bodies, mostly on their palms and faces.
They were immediately brought to different hospitals for treatment.
Authorities said the fire caused an initial P19,985,000 in damage to property.
They are now investigating the cause of the fire.
