'Habagat' continues to bring rains, thunderstorms over parts of Luzon
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Thursday, Aug. 8 said the southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat,” is affecting Northern and Central Luzon and may continue to bring rains to these areas.
In its 4 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the habagat may bring scattered rains and thunderstorms to Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, and Bataan.
PAGASA warned of potential flash floods or landslides during moderate to heavy rains in these areas.
Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the habagat may also affect Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, and the rest of Central Luzon.
Similar conditions are expected in the rest of the country due to localized thunderstorms.
The public is also warned of possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, Weather Specialist Benison Estareja said PAGASA has not monitored any weather disturbances inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) as of Thursday.
He added that a tropical storm with the international name “Maria” is currently located 2,230 kilometers east-northeast of extreme northern Luzon, outside the PAR.
The storm has no direct effect on any part of the country and is not expected to enter the PAR, as it is moving towards Japan.
Moreover, Estareja said the low pressure area near the extreme northern Luzon has already dissipated.
