Carving their own path in gymnastics that is similar to the footsteps of their older brother Carlos, Eldrew and Eliza Yulo are nothing short of spectacular -- equally impressive on local soil and slowly gaining ground in the international scene.

There's no surprise with the rise of the younger Yulos, because it all boils down to the love and nurture of their parents Angelica and Mark.

Angelica obviously knows what it's like to be a mother of a two-time world champion and Olympian, with Carlos becoming the face of gymnastics after ruling various competitions here and there. 

She believes Eldrew, 16, and Eliza, 15, are well on their way to fame and glory.

“Parang, ang sa akin na lang is masaya ko sa mga na-achieve nila. Na parang, unti-unti nila na natutupad na din yung mga pangarap nila,” Angelica told to Manila Bulletin.

It hits different when kids feel that their parents are proud of them. And in moments of disappointments, Angelica is always there to provide a calming presence, offering comforting words to fight off the negativity of comparison, particularly the youngest one, Eliza.

“Kalmado lang na parang sinasabihan ko lang siya na huwag [magkumparahan]. Kasi kahit ako, hindi naman ako nag-compare sa kanila kahit iisa sila ng magulang, isang nanay, magkapatid. Kasi sinasabi ko na kahit na magkapatid kayo, magkaiba kayo ng personality,” Angelica continued.

“So, hindi dapat niyang i-compare yung sarili niya. So, may sarili siyang galing. And at the same time, si Eldrew, ganun din. So, yun yung lagi ko namang sinasabi sa kanya na magkaiba [kayo at may kanya-kanya kayong angking galing],” said Angelica of Eliza, who is keeping up with her trainings alongside Eldrew here in the country.

There’s a chance for Eliza to compete with Carlos when she turns 16 in next year's Southeast Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand. And that would be a special moment for the entire country to see.

The youngest Yulo was seen dazzling in the recent Palarong Pambansa in Cebu City where she snared five gold medals and a silver.

Eldrew, meanwhile, should wait a little longer as he must reach the age of 18 before he can perform in the SEA Games. In the near future, the three might share the stage and deliver a smashing performance for Team PH.

And if that happens, Angelica will surely be in awe.

“Yun 'yung pinagdadasal ko actually, yun yung wini-wish ko talaga na mangyayari yun na makita ko silang nagco-compete sa isang mataas na competition na magkasama po.”
