2 motorcycle riders injured in road accident in Manila
Two motorcycle riders were injured in a road accident on Roxas Boulevard in Manila on Monday morning, July 1.
The Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) identified the motorcycle riders as Mark Joseph Florendo, 44, who sustained laceration and abrasion on his left leg, and Aaron Evangelista, 26, who lost consciousness and suffered abrasions during the incident.
They were given first aid treatment before they were brought to Ospital ng Maynila.
Initial investigation disclosed that the two riders were traveling the southbound lane of Roxas Boulevard around 5:20 a.m.
Witnesses said a motorcycle taxi rider stopped near the side walk in front of the US Embassy to use his cellphone, while the motorcycle behind him failed to use the vehicle's brake and crashed into the motorcycle taxi.
Due to strong impact, the motorcycle taxi rider was thrown onto the pavement, while his vehicle was run over by an incoming trailer truck.
The incident caused heavy traffic, which prompted the authorities to temporarily close the southbound lane of Roxas Boulevard.
The road was reopened to the motorists at around 8 a.m.
Police said the case is still under investigation.
