Darryl Yap admits to cheating in his past relationship

After discovering his true identity and falling in love with someone of the same gender, director and writer Darryl Yap reflects on his past relationships and the mistakes he made.

During an interview on "TicTalk With Aster Amoyo" on YouTube, Darryl confessed to being unfaithful to his partner during their seven-year relationship.

"The second boyfriend was really something serious; that was seven years (relationship). The reason why that seven-year relationship failed was because of me. I cheated a lot. I don't fall in love with straight men," Darryl said.

The "Jowable" director also shared that their seven-year relationship became a cycle of him being forgiven by his partner while constantly cheating.

"I cheated a lot, so the seven years was a constant system of us being in love, him forgiving me, something like that until he cannot take it anymore," he added.

After the breakup, it was a devastating time for Darryl because his ex-partner works with him as a musical director for his stage plays, and he was forced to quit due to their conflict.

"We can't see each other; it really hit me hard because we can't work together, and it cost me a lot of money for my other productions," he added.

Failing a relationship and losing his job, Darryl admitted that it was the darkest day of his life, and it even got worse because he had thoughts of ending his life.

"I remember being in the darkest place of my life. I have a fallen relationship, and I don't have work. I have a lot of legal responsibilities; people are now suing me. I can't pay millions; I had suicidal tendencies already," he added.

Just when Darryl thought his life would be over, he had a breakthrough after visiting Batanes.

"I remembered going to Batanes. I was suicidal, but that was an awakening for me. I'm not a religious person, it was like God talking to me when I went to Batanes," Darryl said.

Arriving at the place with only two thousand pesos in his pocket, Darryl revealed that he had stolen a biscuit and a drink from the famous "Honesty Store" in Batanes.

"I have no money that time, you know what nagnakaw ako dun sa honesty store, magbabayad na sana ako kasi sabi ko sayang wala naman makakita sa akin," he revealed.

(I had no money at that time; you know what I stole from the honesty store. I was about to pay because I said it's too bad no one saw me)

According to Darryl, he's going back to Batanes, and he will give back P18,000 instead of P18 to the Honesty Store. Watch the full interview:
