Can't go wrong with the HP Smart Tank 580

HP is a go-to name for checking out printers.  

I have an HP printer at home, and we have one in the office. Both of which have been around for a couple of years. And yes, both are still kicking strong. 

The HP Smart Tank 580 is a new printer designed to slide into your home office. It’s not overly large, the shape and the minimalist approach made this printer suitable to any room environment.  

In case I haven’t been clear: Yes, the HP Smart Tank 580 looks good. 

But how about its function? Well, as noted earlier, HP is a go-to name, and I’ve been using two different HP printers for a while now. Perhaps, the most relevant of the two is the one I’m using at home, which is the Smart Tank 515, and so far with it I’m satisfied. It’s gotten a lot of jobs done, printing, scanning, and photocopying our documents.  

In what seems like a natural progression for the 515, we expected nothing less from the 580. It can load up to 100 pages in its tray and can print out 11 pages per minute. Not exactly the speediest we’ve seen, but just about right for its price and for our needs. The 580 then sits perfectly as a family printer.

Refilling ink tanks is easy. The ink bottles, you should know, will not spill if you turn them upside down.  

Wireless printing has always been a breeze for us. Even as we set up the printer on a different floor, if it’s connected to the same WiFi, it could print any page out without problem, whether we printed it out from a phone or laptop.  

The HP Smart app has also seen some big updates over the years. With the app, you can scan and print documents you’ve taken a picture with your phone. Even if you take a picture of a receipt, the app will work its magic to polish it up for better presentation. The app also makes it possible to print through the cloud.  

In one scenario we’ve had on how cloud printing can be useful is when we needed one important document. We were in a rush and haven’t reached the office yet. A quick boot of the app to remotely print the document has allowed us to save some by grabbing the document as soon as we arrived. Less fuss.  

All-in-all, the HP Smart Tank 580 is a solid choice if you’re looking for a printer to setup in your home office.
