Ranking members of the House of Representatives have welcomed the election of Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero as the new Senate President.
House Committee on Appropriations Chairman Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Zaldy Co can't help but feel proud of Escudero, who is now the third highest-ranked official in the land.
"As a fellow Bicolano, I'm immensely proud to witness Sen. Chiz Escudero's remarkable achievement," Co said in a statement Tuesday, May 21. A day earlier, Escudero replaced Juan Miguel "Migz" Zubiri as the Senate President.
"His election as Senate president is a testament to his unwavering dedication, exemplary leadership, and steadfast commitment to serving the Filipino people," Co said of Escudero.
Co describes Escudero as someone who is known for his deep understanding of legislative processes and advocacy for good governance.
"Congratulations, Senate president Chiz! Your Bicolano roots has always been a source of pride, and your new role elevates this pride to new heights. Mabuhay ka (Long live)!" Co said.
Meanhwile "Young Guns" bloc members Zambales 1st district Rep. Jay Khonghun and La Union 1st district Rep. Paolo Ortega are hoping that the change in Senate leader would lead to meaningful advancements in solving the nation's problems.
“Senate President Chiz Escudero brings invaluable experience and leadership to the Senate. We look forward to a strong partnership between the Senate and the House to advance legislation that benefits the Filipino people,” said Khonghun, a House assistant majority leader.
Khonghun expressed hope that Escudero’s “pragmatic approach and dedication to public service will enhance our legislative efforts.”
Ortega, also an assistant majority leader, says Escudero’s election is a positive development for both chambers of Congress. “This marks a new chapter for the Senate, one where cooperation and effective governance can thrive."
He continued, “Senator Escudero’s election as Senate President is a milestone that resonates beyond the Senate chambers; it’s a pivotal moment for us in the House of Representatives too. It signals a new era of collaboration and synergy between our legislative bodies.”
Both Ortega and Khonghun expressed their eagerness to collaborate with Escudero in addressing crucial issues such as education, healthcare, inflation, and economic constitutional amendments.
