1,000 aircon units bought daily amid extreme heat - finance firm
The searing heat of the summer season in the country has prompted more Filipinos to avail of loans to purchase air conditioning units, recording 1,000 aircons bought daily at the start of the year, shared Home Credit Philippines.
In a press conference on May 13 in Taguig City, Home Credit Philippines Chief Sales Officer Puneet Suneja said there was a significant growth in aircon purchases since the beginning of their summer campaign this year, headlined by brand ambassador Marian Rivera.
"We knew in the summer, there will be demand. We projected a very hot summer, so we went after this very aggressive zero percent interest campaign, so customers can buy easily without any cost of interest," he said.
Prior to this year, the company recorded less than 1,000 aircon purchases.
Suneja cited the stronger marketing and awareness campaign this year, along with more participation from their partners as vital factors that helped spur the surge in loans for aircons.
"I think more and more people, who only saw aircons as an aspiration are taking the jump and putting an aircon in their house," he added.
Home Credit Philippines Chief Marketing Officer Sheila Paul noted that the company is trying to grow their distribution, with many more aircons available on zero percent interest coming this year. Home Credit offers different brands of aircon units. .
According to Home Credit's website, borrowers must be Filipino citizens aged 18 to 68 years-old to qualify for the air condition installments loan. They must provide a primary ID, and have a reliable source of income. Customers with ongoing loans are still qualified to apply for the loan.
For the past decade from 2013 to 2023, the company has sold 500,000 units of aircons.
Other than aircons, Home Credit also logged P30 billion worth of mobile phones sold in 2023. Since 2013, the company has sold 12.5 million mobile phones to date, with the Apple IPhone as the top brand and product. P6 billion worth of iPhones were sold in 2023 alone.
