Manila Bulletin recently visited the cities of Shenzhen and Dongguan in China, along with other Philippine media delegates, to experience first-hand the HUAWEI Pura (pronounced as “pyura”) series smartphones. As proud members of the HUAWEI Pura smartphone series, the HUAWEI Pura 70 Pro and the HUAWEI Pura 70 are the outcomes of the continuing innovation in smartphone photography and aesthetics that the company started in 2012 with the HUAWEI P Series. Fast forward to the present, HUAWEI Pura marks a new milestone for the company, anchoring on the HUAWEI ethos of fashion forward with authentic aspiration.

The most prominent physical characteristic of the HUAWEI Pura 70 Pro and the HUAWEI Pura 70 is the distinctive rounded triangle design element on the back of the smartphones, which houses the main camera system. The design element looks like a forward symbol, which aligns with the fashion forward philosophy of HUAWEI. The HUAWEI Pura 70 Pro is available in black and white, while the HUAWEI Pura 70 comes in black, pink, and white color variants.

Featuring a sleek curved design, the HUAWEI Pura 70 Pro fits well in the hand, which makes it easy to maneuver for everyday use and mobile photography. The black variant of the HUAWEI Pura 70 Pro has a smooth frosted back finish that glimmers even under soft light. The back of the phone does not easily attract fingerprints and smudges, aptly keeping itself pure and clean despite daily use. For added protection, HUAWEI handed a unit of the HUAWEI Pura 70 Pro with a clear plastic case. On the other hand, the HUAWEI Pura 70 features a flat edge design and has a smooth, semi-glossy back cover finish.

The HUAWEI Pura 70 Pro has a 6.8-inch touchscreen display, which is bright, clear, and vibrant. Looking at objects on the screen is pleasing to the eye, which is useful, especially when you are capturing images and checking back the quality of your shots. Speaking of capturing images, we were brought to several nice places in Shenzhen and Dongguan to experience and demonstrate the HUAWEI Pura 70 Pro camera capabilities. Noticeably, the smartphone comes with a triple camera layout and the XMAGE label, a manifesto of HUAWEI focusing on the power of imaging.

Under broad daylight, the HUAWEI Pura 70 Pro produces sharp images with brilliant colors even with default camera settings. The camera interface has onscreen buttons for wide-angle and up to 10x zoom options. Scrolling through the zoom buttons allows you to choose up to 100x zoom. Camera focus becomes shaky as you go beyond 10x zoom and you expect to get a blurred photo, but the HUAWEI Pura 70 Pro processes it to provide a clear output. Another feature that we like is Snapshot. This camera mode allows you to capture images of fast-moving subjects, such as sports and wildlife, with less blur. The smartphone processes the images and gives you clear outputs.

Under low light settings, the HUAWEI Pura 70 Pro still impresses, producing clean shots with minimal image noise. Camera zoom remains useful because the smartphone processes the images to provide better outputs. The super macro feature allows you to appreciate better minute details of objects such as food and vegetation. Wide-angle mode enables you to have a wider perspective and emphasizes the immensity of colossal subjects such as buildings and landscapes. The HUAWEI Pura 70 Pro can capture 4K videos as well.

After a whole day of shooting, the HUAWEI Pura 70 Pro remains up and running with its integrated battery. Supporting 100W charging with the bundled charger and USB-C to USB-C cable, the HUAWEI Pura 70 Pro can be fully charged in around 30 minutes. Overall, the HUAWEI Pura series is another exciting chapter for the company, and this is based on our experience with the HUAWEI Pura 70 series smartphones, particularly the HUAWEI Pura 70 Pro and the HUAWEI Pura 70. We are looking forward to experiencing the smartphones again in the future and exploring their other promising capabilities.
