The Valenzuela City government celebrated the “Second Valenzuelano Solo Parents Day” on Saturday, April 27, at the People’s Park Amphitheater and WES Arena.
A total of 4,583 registered solo parents were recognized for their hard work in raising their families independently.
This is pursuant to City Ordinance No. 1087, Series of 2023, declaring the third week and third Saturday of April of every year as Solo Parents’ Week and National Solo Parents’ Day.
The local government distributed financial assistance to qualified solo parents who are earning minimum wage and below shall be entitled to the P 1,000 cash subsidy per month, making Valenzuela City the first city in the National Capital Region to distribute this benefit.
Mayor Wes Gatchalian led the two-day distribution of groceries to the 2,449 registered Solo Parents from District 1 and 2,134 beneficiaries from District 2.
The "negosyo carts" or "nego-carts" that cost P30,000 each were also turned over to one solo parent per barangay to empower them and enhance their economic well-being.
The oathtaking ceremony of the Solo Parents officers of the 33 barangays was also held during the event.
