The city government of Malabon on Sunday, April 21 started the celebration of its 23rd anniversary as a city with a Thanksgiving mass at San Bartolome Church.
We are celebrating the 23rd Malabon Cityhood Anniversary to remind our countrymen of the rich culture and history of our city and also to thank the Lord for his blessings given to our people),” Malabon Mayor Jeannie Sandoval said.
From being a municipality, Malabon became a city on April 21, 2001, through Republic Act 9019 (Malabon City Charter) signed by former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Mayor Sandoval thanked all government officials and employees for their hard work to make Malabon City a better place to live and serve quality programs to the Malabueños.
The main author of the Republic Act is former Malabon Representative and current Philippine Red Cross - Malabon City Chapter Chairman Ricky Sandoval.
Noong tayo ay naging city mas lumaki (This Malabon Cityhood, this is the first bill that I passed when I became a congressman in 1998. It is a great advantage to be a city. that is, our RPT [Real Property Tax] or our tax collection, there is a division for the cities, there is a division for the municipalities, because there are only a few cities, whereas, there are many Therefore, because there are many who divide the RPT or taxes, only a small amount is obtained. When we became a bigger city),” he said.
Sandoval shared that when Malabon became a city in 2001, the funds it received from the local government (coming from tax collection) increased to about P250 million per year (higher than the P125 million/per year in 1998) which allowed the city to create more programs for the Malabueños.
In line with the celebration, the city also held on April 19 the "Walang Tulugan, Serbisyo Caravan in different parts of the city to bring different local government services closer to the residents.
Among the programs included in the caravan were the distribution of the unclaimed Malabon Ahon Blue Cards, plastic bottle collection activity, Disaster Resilience Forum, Health Caravan, free legal consultation, releasing of birth certificates, pampering services for senior citizens, and distribution of toys to children.
