Not all Filipinos can be expected to understand tidbits of Western culture like April Fools Day jokes.
P3PWD Party-list Rep. Rowena Guanzon had this to say as she empathize with the man who was pranked by a takoyaki store into tattooing the store's logo on his forehead.
April Fools Day is observed every 1st of April. People use the occasion as a free pass to tell lies, almost always for the purpose of laughs.
"May isang negosyo ang nagpalaro online sa kung sino ang magpapatattoo ng kanilang logo kapalit ang 100k, may kumasa naman sa challenge na ginawa talaga pero bumwelta ng prank lang ang nasabing post dahil #AprilFools ngayon," Guanzon wrote on Facebook.
(There was one business that held a contest online and announced a P100,000 prize to the person who can get their logo tattooed on them. Someone took them up for it and had it done, but they said it was just a prank for #AprilFools.)
"[B]e mindful na hindi lahat ng Pilipino ay familiar sa western culture or kung ano ang trend, paano ngayon yan? buti sana kung henna lang," noted the former Commission on Elections (Comelec) commissioner.
(Be mindful that not all Filipinos are familiar with Western culture or the trends. What now? It would have been fine if it was just a henna tattoo.)
"Maaring dala ng hirap ng buhay kaya niya ginawa yun (Maybe he just did it due to poverty)," Guanzon said, referring to the frustrated contest winner.
