ILOILO CITY – At least 50 houses were damaged by a fire here on Tuesday, March 5.
SMOKE rises in a residential area hit by a fire on Tuesday, March 5, in Iloilo City.
The Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said that 36 houses were totally damaged and 14 were partially damaged.
The fire in Zone 1, Barangay Airport, Mandurriao District began shortly before 8 a.m. and was declared fire out by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Iloilo City past 9 a.m.
No fatalities were reported but several residents were slightly injured while they were evacuating and carrying their belongings.
Displaced residents were taken to the Mandurriao Elementary School.
The Iloilo City Social Welfare Office is still gathering data about the number of displaced persons.
The fire near the old airport site is the first major blaze in National Fire Prevention Month here.
