The Elasto Painters have been thriving so far with the young talents in their lineup and could only get better once Villegas shares the frontcourt with another sweet-shooting rookie in Keith Datu.

However, Guiao revealed that Villegas might miss a couple of games in the early going of the Philippine Cup after he experienced inflammation on the injured knee.

Villegas sustained an ACL injury while playing in the PBA 3x3 but was still tapped by Rain or Shine as its No. 3 overall pick.

“Okay na sana siya e. Yung rehab niya was going well, naga-ano na siya, sumasama na siya sa drills namin na non-contact. But one day he was working out on his own, nag-buckle yung paa niya, nagkaroon ng inflammation,” said Guiao.

Rain or Shine, though, is being patient with Villegas’ recovery as it wants to ensure that he returns to the pink of his health when he formally joins the team

“Binalik namin sa doktor ang sabi i-set back muna namin yung pagbabalik niya. Okay lang naman, hindi naman namin siya minamadali, I think it’s better to be safe than sorry,” added the veteran mentor.

Even without Villegas, Guiao is confident he has enough pieces to hold the fort and contend in the all-Filipino Conference, especially that the team is coming off a strong showing in the recently concluded Commissioner’s Cup.

“We have enough bigs I think sa ngayon. Andiyan si Beau, si Keith Datu is playing a lot more comfortably adjusting to the system. Andiyan pa si Borbs, si Mark Borboran and we also use si Mac Belo as a four. So pagdating sa All Filipino, palagay ko sufficient na yun,” said Guiao.
