Expect heavy traffic due to Chinese New Year parade -Manila gov't


The local government of Manila warned motorists on Friday, Feb. 9, to expect heavy traffic along the route of the parade for the celebration of Chinese New Year in Binondo, Manila on Feb. 10.

It announced the following route the parade will take so motorists can avoid the areas while the event is ongoing, which will start at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

 

It said that the starting area of the parade is at the Manila Post Office on Magallanes Drive, then right to Jones Bridge, straight to Quintin Paredes Street, right to Ongpin Street, left to Salazar Street, right to Benavides Street, right to Soler Street, right to S. Padilla Street, left to Ongpin Street, left to Alonzo Street, left to Recto Avenue, left to Regina Regente Street to Lucky Chinatown. 

 

The city government said that no vehicles are allowed to park along the parade routes, and all motorists who violate them will be towed.

 

The Binondo-Intramuros Bridge was already closed at 12 a.m. on Friday for the preparation of the grand fireworks display to welcome the year of the Wooden Dragon at 10 p.m.

 

It added that the southbound lane of Jones Bridge going to Manila City Hall will be closed starting at 7 p.m. onwards, while the northbound portion going to Binondo will be closed from 10 p.m. onwards to give way to the public who are interested to watch the fireworks display.
