PNP Chief bestows medal to slain, wounded cops in Samar operation

Police General Benjamin Acorda Jr., chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), paid tribute on Friday, Feb. 2, to three killed and four wounded cops involved in a recent operation against alleged members of a criminal gang in Santa Margarita, Samar.

Acorda said the "selfless sacrifice" made by the brave officers of the Samar Provincial Police Office's 1st Samar Provincial Mobile Force Company (1st SPMFC, SPPO) and Eastern Visayas Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB-8) will be "eternally honored" and "serves as a testament to the PNP’s dedication to upholding law and order in our nation."

Acorda first dropped by at the St. Camillus Hospital in Calbayog City where Police Corporal Rannel Pedamato, Police Corporal Mark Jason Sixta, Patrolman Ham Kritnere Capalis, and Patrolman Mark Redoblado were recuperating due to sustained injuries.

The cops are all members of the 1st SPMFC, SPPO, one of the two PNP units which encountered alleged members of the Ampoan criminal group while serving arrest warrants against murder suspects Edito Ampoan Jr., the pinpointed leader of the gang; and members Jojo Altarejos and Rogelio Macorol in Barangay Mahayag last Jan. 30.

In recognition of their valor, each wounded officer was presented with the prestigious "Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting" (PNP Wounded Personnel Medal). The wounded cops were reported to be in stable condition.

Acorda then proceeded to the St. Peter’s Chapel where the remains of Police Staff Sergeant Christian Tallo, Police Corporal Eliazar Estrelles Jr., and Police Master Sergeant Paul Terence Paclibar were laid.

Both Tallo and Estrelles were members of the 1st SPMFC, SPPO while Paclibar belonged to the RMFB-8.

The PNP chief expressed sympathy and presented the slain cops' grieving families with the distinguished Medalya ng Kadakilaan (PNP Heroism Medal) "as a tribute to the fallen heroes’ exceptional courage and dedication to service."

“We stand together as one PNP family during these challenging times. The bravery exhibited by our officers, both in the face of imminent danger and in the ultimate sacrifice of our fallen heroes, exemplifies the unwavering commitment and dedication that define the spirit of the PNP," Acorda said.

"We mourn the loss of our comrades and salute the resilience of those who continue to uphold peace. The PNP is with you, every step of the way,” he added.

Aside from the medals, Acorda also extended undisclosed financial support to the wounded cops and the families of the slain officers "to alleviate immediate needs and serve as a testament to the PNP’s commitment to the well-being of its members."
