CAVITE – A father's innocent misunderstanding of his daughter’s request in Noveleta turned into a viral sensation online.

“Sabi makisuyo po ako kung nasa palengke kayo. Paki bili naman po ako nang panghalo sa sinigang (She said please do me a favor if you are in the market. Please buy me something to mix in sinigang),” Jeg Alix captioned a photo on Facebook on Sept. 3, which showed him holding a ladle.

"Gulay, hindi sandok. Ang linaw naman ng sinabi, panghalo. Saan ako nagkamali (It turns out she meant vegetables, not ladle. It was clear, something to mix. Where did I go wrong?),” he added with a crying face emoji.

In Filipino, the word “panghalo” could both mean something used for mixing and something that could be mixed into a dish.

The post got 148,000 haha reactions and has been shared more than 8,800 times.

In an interview with the Manila Bulletin on Friday, Sept. 8, Alix says it was an honest mistake.

“Dahil medyo puyat nang tumawag ang anak ko, magluluto daw siya, wala siyang panghalo, ang sumaksak sa isip ko sandok (I did not have enough sleep and when my daugher called, she said she was going to cook and did not have something to mix so I thought of a ladle,” he said.

As the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) head of Noveleta, Alix often uses Facebook to post flood warnings during inclement weather.

He said he is happy to make netizens laugh for a change.

The funny incident taught Alix a lesson.

“Ang linawin mabuti ang inuutos. Marami din ang nalinawan sa panghalo at sa panglahok o pangsahog (To clarify instructions. Many were also enlightened about the terms meaning something used to mix and something to mix in).”
