BUTUAN CITY – A magnitude-5.1 earthquake rocked Davao Occidental province before dawn on Friday morning, September 8.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the tremor was recorded at 3:20 a.m. and its epicenter was 280 kilometers (kms) southeast of Sarangani Island, municipality of Sarangani, Davao Occidental.
The tremor had a depth of 149 kms, Phivolcs said.
It was recorded at Intensity 1 in Malungon, Sarangani.
Phivolcs sees no damage but expects aftershocks.
The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Southern Mindanao and Davao Occidental Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported no damage or injury from the earthquake.
