The Land Transportation Office (LTO) announced Friday, Sept. 8, that it has launched its first ever free Conductor’s Theoretical Course (CTC) for bus conductors to help them be more educated with their roles and responsibilities.

The course spearheaded by LTO’s Pasay City Licensing Center-Driver’s Education Center (PCLC-DEC) was attended by bus conductors from Five Star Bus Company, Bataan Transit Bus Co., Genesis Transport Inc., Bicol Isarog Transport System Inc., as well as indidivuals interested to acquire a valid government ID.

PCLC chief Ma. Paquita DP. Dela Cruz said all 27 attendees graduated from the course which resulted to the pioneer class obtaining a passing grade of 100 percent.

The CTC, held every last Wednesday of the month, is an eight-hour seminar required to be attended by those who are applying for a Conductor's License (CL), a valid government ID exclusively issued by the LTO to bus conductors under the mandate of the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.

The course includes topics that aims to educate and enlighten conductors, who serve as partners or assistants to public vehicle drivers, about their specific tasks and obligations. It includes discussions on Republic Act 4136 which pertains to road and traffic laws and traffic signs.

It also covers lessons on fare discounts, basic courtesy towards passengers, gender sensitivity, cargo loading, and the maintenance and breakdown of public vehicles.

"Kailangan kasi na lahat ng gumagamit ng ating lansangan ay knowledgeable sa mga road traffic rules, laws, and etiquette. Ang goal namin sa PCLC-DEC ay maging edukado ang lahat ng magmamaneho (Everyone who uses our roadways must be knowledgeable about road traffic rules, laws, and etiquette. Our goal at PCLC-DEC is to educate all motorists),” Dela Cruz said.

LTO National Capital Region (NCR) Director Roque "Rox" I. Verzosa III expressed hope that the initiative will lead to safer roads for the public.

The LTO said that similar CTC lecture seminars will be held at the respective DECs of LTO – PITX (Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange) in Parañaque City and Quezon City Licensing Center on East Avenue to promote road order and safety.

Aside from the free CTC, the LTO’s PCLC-DEC also provides a free Theoretical Driving Course (TDC) every Thursdays and Fridays unless there are official announcements to the contrary. (Trixee Rosel)
