Heat indices in 20 areas across the country were categorized under “danger” level on Friday, Sept. 8 based on the monitoring of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

PAGASA recorded the highest heat index in Daet, Camarines Norte, reaching 46 degrees Celsius (°C).
Among the towns and cities where "dangerous" heat indices were recorded include Aparri, Cagayan (43°C); Iba Zambales (42°); Baler, Aurora (42°C); Casiguran Aurora (43°C); Sangley Point, Cavite (42°C); Ambulong Tanauan, Batangas (44°C); Alabat, Quezon (42°C); Calapan, Oriental Mindoro, (43°C); Coron, Palawan (42°C); Virac (Synop) Catanduanes (42°C); Masbate City, Masbate (45°C); Juban, Sorsogon (44°C); Roxas City, Capiz (42°C); Catarman, Northern Samar (42°C); Catbalogan, Western Samar (44°C); Tacloban City, Leyte (43°C); Borongan, Eastern Samar (45°C); Davao City, Davao del Sur (42°C); and Butuan City, Agusan Del Norte (44°C).
Meanwhile, weather specialist Rhea Torres, in the latest PAGASA weather report, reported that the weak southwest monsoon or 'habagat' is still affecting the western portion of North and Central Luzon.
Partly cloudy skies are also expected in Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon on Sept. 9, with isolated rainshowers likely due to localized thunderstorms at nighttime. (Lizst Torres Abello)
