Cagayan conducts rabies awareness campaign

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVET) continues to conduct Information and Education Communication (IEC) campaign on rabies awareness and responsible pet ownership in various schools in Cagayan. 

Dr. Myka Ponce, Veterinarian II of PVET, has already conducted an IEC campaign in 18 elementary schools in the towns of Ballesteros, Lasam, Baggao, Lal-lo, Gattaran, Peñablanca, Piat, Alcala, and Iguig.

She has delivered lectures on rabies awareness and responsible pet ownership to around 2,000 students.

"Mga estudyante ang target audience natin sa IEC campaign dahil sila ang madalas na nakakagat ng aso o pusa and to educate them at sana ma-relay nila ang info sa kanilang tahanan (Students are our target audience in the IEC because they are the usual victims of dog and cat bites and we hope that they will be able to relay what they have learned in their homes)," said  Ponce.

The IEC campaign is line with the celebration of World Rabies Day on Sept. 28, 2023 with the theme "Rabies: All for 1 One Health for All.”
